What started only as a dream for Cher Kondor, the Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing and Peace Garden has become a living tribute in York County, Pennsylvania to all veterans. The garden is dedicated to our fallen sons and daughters fighting the war on terror. Cher Kondor became an American Gold Star Mother when she lost her son, Martin Kondor, in 2004. With help from the City, board members, and the Gold Star families of PA, Cher’s dream came to life.
With a dedication ceremony held in 2012, the Memorial Garden began rapidly unfolding into the beautiful living monument it is today. On the wall upon entry to the Garden, you will find inscribed all the names of the York County fallen from the time of the Garden’s founding. The monument is a meeting and gathering place for those looking to commemorate, remember and celebrate the lives of our fallen sons and daughters who have volunteered their lives to protect this country.
York’s Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing and Peace Garden is free to enter and is open to the public dusk to dawn year-round. The garden is at its peak on Memorial day, during the York Gold Star 5K Memorial race.
In the Fall of 2019 and the Spring of 2020, JLS® gathered a team to help clean up and mulch around the garden. Below are a few photos of the helpers!
