Every finished piece starts as a sketch.
That was the premise of Studies & Sketches, this year's theme for Art in Residence — Creative York's annual fall fundraiser, held at Investment Real Estate in downtown York.
Our team spent the evening among works pulled from private collections and watched invited artists turn blank canvases into finished paintings in a 20-minute live showcase.
Congratulations to Rob Evans, the 2026 honoree, recognized for a body of work that has shaped this region's arts community for decades.
And thank you to Creative York. What's raised at Art in Residence goes into arts education, scholarships and free community programs across York County.
Supporting the local arts community matters to us. Creativity and engineering start the same way — a rough sketch and somebody willing to keep going. York is better for the people doing that work here.

Our team had a great night at Art in Residence.
Creative York's annual fall fundraiser took over Investment Real Estate in downtown York, and this year's theme — Studies & Sketches — was about the part of art most people never see: the first marks, the rough draft, the idea before it works.
Artists painted live, start to finish, in 20 minutes. Works came out of private collections. There was an auction, raffles, and a lot of good conversation.
Congratulations to this year's honoree, Rob Evans.
And thank you to Creative York for having us. Everything raised goes back into art classes, scholarships and free programs for people all over York County.
Supporting our local arts community matters to us. York is a better place to live and work because of the people who make things here — and that includes the people making art.
