High-quality design is standard with our patented Peregrine® integrated robotic cartoning system. The Peregrine IS, a monoblock, vision-guided solution, changes the cartoning game by including robotic carton forming, loading and closing functions. With one control architecture for the robot and machine, a simplified user experience further enhances operational efficiency and simplifies changeover. This flexible and versatile integrated robotic cartoning system not only solves today’s challenges such as space restrictions, increasing yields and filling labor gaps, but is a future-proof investment that handles tomorrow’s, too. Boasting the industry’s smallest footprint, this system truly allows you to do more with less. Read on to explore how Peregrine is designed to revolutionize cartoning.
Once the blanks are placed into registration, they are indexed perpendicular to the carton feeder direction and downstream to the carton forming station. In this position, the forming section is easily accessed for machine operation, maintenance and changeover. Performing carton forming robotically simplifies the process and removes many of the complexities and moving parts required with traditional mechanical formers. This patent-pending Perpendicular Cartoning Forming (PCF) is an industry-first that helps overcome the challenge of space restrictions.
Peregrine receives primary packages from an upstream process such as a flow-wrapper, thermoformer or vertical form fill seal (VFFS) bagger, then robotically picks and loads them into a top-load carton. Featuring a proprietary design, Peregrine can strategically position cartons while loading, optimizing the efficiency of the loading robots. The system uses high-payload sanitary delta robots that handle a wide variety of products with speed and precision. For higher production rates, additional robots can be added to further increase throughput and efficiency.
After the carton is formed, the JLS TRAK™ system moves the cartons at very high speeds and with extremely accurate positioning for loading. In tandem with the TRAK system, the Positive Carton Transport system (PCT™) retains full control of the carton throughout the entire operation without ever letting go.
After the carton is done being loaded, its flaps are robotically closed. Once the closing robot folds and seals the cartons, they are placed onto the takeaway conveyor. This conveyor is in line with the product pick belt. By performing carton closing robotically, the process is greatly simplified and avoids the complexity and moving parts associated with traditional mechanical closers. With this arrangement, the overall machine width is kept to a minimum, creating the narrowest footprint available.
The high-speed Peregrine integrated robotic cartoning system easily loads flexible bags, flow packs and other primary packages into tri-seal and other style cartons. Ideal products include:
Not sure if your product is right for the Peregrine? Our Test Lab can help. In the Lab, we are able to design, 3D printed robotic tooling and test products. We even have full integrated robotic cartoning systems dedicated to the Lab to test them on!
JLS® developed our Vacuum on Board (VOB) technology to facilitate the use of high-speed vacuum generators in primary food packing equipment and applications.
Vacuum turn on/off time is greatly reduced and problematic vacuum hosing and tubing are eliminated. Sanitation is simple as is tool changeover and there are no clogged airlines to contend with or clean.
Our VOB 2.0 was developed in conjunction with Penn State University, allowing us to facilitate new design parameters via a computer model versus trial and error in previous design iterations. More importantly, our air consumption has been dramatically lowered with more than a 50% reduction in actual field installations.
Please tell us a little about your current packaging challenge and someone will reach out to you shortly.
