Free Up the Production Floor with the Powerful Peregrine®

August 10, 2021 | Gary Pickett - Director of Business Development

The vision-guided robotic Peregrine® cartoning system maintains high speeds and offers the ultimate flexibility—all in a small, hygienic, easy-to-use package. Peregrine places carton forming and closing inline so there’s no wasted real estate.

In fact, a Peregrine placed behind three traditional flow wrappers can sometimes free up half of a production floor. In addition, the cartoning system eliminates problematic handoffs from conveyor to conveyor.

Compared to other cartoning methods, the Peregrine surpasses them all. The traditional top-load cartoning system requires an infeed conveyor and product collator. After the cartons are formed, they are then transported to the robotic loading cell. That section of conveyor from the carton forming to the loading section relies on friction to move. This typically results in placing the carton former and carton loader far away from each other, which usually leads to the cartons slipping and sliding. This, as you may have guessed, results in bottlenecks and downtime. Unless the carton and forming machines are placed close together, full carton control is not possible.

The Peregrine’s high-speed JLS TRAK and positive carton transport (PCT) system eliminate problematic handoffs and the need for any other conveyors to move cartons away from the former, to accumulate, or manage the loading process. Cartons are kept in-line, without turns—from forming to loading, all the way to closing.

Instead of using conveyors and spacing carton formers and loaders far away from each other, a servo carton removal (SCR) system removes the carton from the forming machine and places it into our track system. The two-axis, servo-controlled SCR system positively grips the carton and moves it vertically down into position on the track.Once cartons are placed into the TRAK the PCT accurately and efficiently moves the cartons through the loading area and the Peregrine robots build the product collation directly into the carton eliminating all transfers from the infeed into the carton-and all while saving valuable real estate on the production floor.
