From lack of floorspace to inefficient processes, bakeries face many challenges when it comes to secondary packaging. These problems are both time-consuming and costly. Compact and nimble, robotic cartoners can solve these issues.
Though the patented Peregrine® robotic cartoner comes with many benefits, below are the top three benefits that help improve bakery operations. Read on to learn more!
Small Footprint
Many bakeries find themselves short on floorspace as they continue to grow. This makes finding room for secondary packaging machinery such as cartoners difficult. By eliminating the need for conveyor handoffs, the Peregrine’s footprint is smaller than more complex mechanical cartoning systems. With a compact footprint, there is no need for extra space. Instead, the Peregrine minimizes the complexity of space organization. In fact, placed behind multiple flow wrappers, the Peregrine can free up half of a production floor’s area, leaving you more space to maximize your facility as you choose.
Near Instant Changeover
Featuring JLS’ proprietary servo carton removal (SCR) and positive carton transport (PCT™️) systems, the Peregrine can achieve near-instant changeover. Changing from one carton size to another is as simple as a push of a button on the HMI and a quick recipe change. This increases efficiency while decreasing downtime for bakeries.
The Peregrine’s two-axis, servo-controlled system, called SCR, positively grips a formed carton and moves it vertically down into carriers on a track system. These carriers automatically adjust to the carton size, so there’s no need to physically adjust them as you might with a mechanical system. The JLS® TRAK™, Peregrine’s high-speed carton management system, then moves the cartons at high speeds with extremely accurate positioning for loading all the way through robotic closing. This efficient solution eliminates the need for conveyors to move cartons away from the former.
With the Peregrine, enabling near-instant changeover and flexibility at high speeds is not only a possibility, but a reality.
Vision-Guided Flexibility
Traditional collate and load systems that require diverters and additional devices for orientation and spacing are complex, costly and eat away at precious bakery floor space. These mechanical systems can also jam, damage your product and halt production. Removing jams and resetting the system can be time-consuming.
With vision-guided robotics, products do not need to be oriented or spaced perfectly prior to carton loading. Instead, the robot will identify the product’s orientation on the pick belt and determine the proper orientation required prior to loading. Once the robot gently picks up the product, it will automatically orient the product properly as it is loading into the carton.
Together, JLS’ unique carton handling combined with vision-guided robotic technology achieve high-speed, flexible cartoning in a compact footprint.
